In our Milky Way there are around hundred billion stars, and in space there is around thousand billion galaxies like Milky way. We believe that over half of all stars has one or more planets that circle around them. If we presume that on each thousandth planet, due to appropriate size and distance from the star, the environment is similar to Earth’s environment, it enables the creation of life, we come up with a number of almost hundred billion planets in space where in theory life could exist.
According to that calculation, in our galaxy there could be 100 million planets that could sustain life similar to Earth. I such wide and unexplored vastness there are numerous questions that today’s science cannot answer with any certainty. What are those questions and what mysteries rule space, you will find out in the article…
10ARE WE ALONE?
Radio telescopes have been scanning space for life since 1977. There are 60 million potentially habitable planets in our Milky Way alone.
09COSMIC RAYS
High energy particles hit the Earth from outer space. Some can be traced to supernovas and the Sun, however, it is unknown where the higher strength rays originate.
08DARK MATTER
Believe to exist due to the discrepancy between the gravitational effect of large object in space and their mass. AS it absorbs light, dark matter can’t be seen.
07REIONIZATION OF THE UNIVERSE
When the universe formed from the BIG BANG, it was dense and opaque. An unexplained age of reionization then happened, making the Universe transparent.
06DARK ENERGY
The hypothetical energy makes up 68% of the Universe. Researchers believe it has a low density, as there are only 6 tons in the SOLAR SYSTEM, with Pluton’s orbit.
05SUN’S CORONA
The Sun’s outer atmosphere is made from plasma, reaching temperatures of 27 million F. Researchers are unsure such heat generated, as the surface temperature is 5000 F.
04EXPLODING STARS
When star runs out fuel, it explodes into supernova, expelling debris up to a velocity of 30 km/s. The mechanics of how this happens and what occurs in the stars core are unknown.
03EARTH
Thought have been formed by collisions of asteroids 4.6 billion years ago. Scientists are studying meteorites and the oldest rocks on earth to understand the exact formation process.
02BLACK HOLES
Formed when a large star explodes and collapses on itself, with a gravitational force so strong that it suck in light and matter, researchers are unable to see inside a black hole.
01THE FATE OF THE UNIVERSE
The fate of the Universe is dependent on the unknown density of matter and energy in the cosmos. Possible outcomes are that the Universe will collapse in on itself or rip itself apart.
