Electric chair, lethal injection, rope or guillotine… Those are just some of the ways in which the worst criminals leave this world. Some are calm and at peace with their destiny, while others cry and beg for forgiveness.
In those COUNTRIES WHERE THE DEATH PENALTY is still enforced, there is unwritten rule to offer to the prisoner just before the execution of the sentence, as a consolation, a choice of meals, cigarettes or alcohol. There was a joke that three convicts wanted to play a game of “preference” (theoretical game can last for-ever without stalling).
Even old Greeks, Romans and Chinese allowed their victims to choose a last meal, while Aztecs feed their victims for a year before the execution. In Europe, fulfilling the last request of the convict is based in superstition. It was believed that with it the convicted accepts the punishment and forgives the executioner, judge and witnesses. By rule the best meal was given to them, so that their spirit would not return after execution. In jails they remember horse amounts of alcohol that were used to calm down the convicts before death. Most convicts refuse any type of meal or drink, which is understandable… Who wants to eat when they in a couple of hours, they will be dead. However, some of the thought of dying does not excite them…They enjoy in their last bites and drink wine with the smoke of the best cigarettes. Dennis W. Bagwell ordered as a last request: medium stake, breaded chicken breasts and drum sticks, grilled ribs, French fries, onion, bacon, omelet, tomato, two hamburgers, milk, coffee and washed it all down with a tea with a lot of sugar…. One thing I certain he will not have a stomachache.
