Marvel started as a company which publishes comic books and leasing comic book heroes to other media. Marvel started to publish comic books in 1929, and in 1950 became leading publisher in this area. Since 2009 it is owned by company Volt Disney which bought Marvel for total of 4.24 billion dollars.
